Accidental DIY

Lets keep this short, sweet and visual. Today I was looking at vogue.fr for Valentino Fall Winter 2012 Collection because- what woman doesn't LOVE Valentino?! Well- on the Vogue website, they show a ton of backstage photos which show you how to do the hair and makeup from the show! Here are some photos. Quite simple and excellent photography. Thanks Vogue!!

in no particular order:

Wear this:

Emilio De La Morena.
I have seen a few things on his runway which look really simple yet fantastic. One of which I will be bring you a DIY of next monday. Here is a photo of one of his jackets that I noticed looked pretty simple to wear. All you need are:
A jacket
A large matching scarf
A belt.
To do this you put on your jacket, wrap your scarf behind your shoulders, leaving enough to pull over your head, and let the rest dangle in front of your torso. Buckle on a belt, even of a different color, and PRESTO! You look like this beaut. You get the peplum look without having to do any sort of expensive shopping or tiring sewing.

Two Part

This is a three part post.

Part one:

I just wanted to share this photo of my two year old son and I. Chocolate face and all. Sharing the peace with the world. I am going to teach him to love and be respectful.

Part two:

I love Susie Bubble. She has a unique style that is a little street and a little runway. I think that everyone should try to be like she is. What I mean by that is to wear what you feel. Not to literally be just like her. If you feel a little disorganized and spastic, put on some neon and layer it up! If you feel like you are going to accomplish something then wear a blazer and a cute skirt. Or if you just feel like being you- experiment and mix-match! Point is- wear whatever the hell you want! today I have on GIANT pants. I bought them in Sursnes, France two years ago at their weds. market and I wear them all the time. They are my "I do what I want" pants. In a way they make me feel safe. ( also I could hide a midget in them). Photo below.

Photo from her website ( linked above)

Yes, These ARE my pants. I love em'.

Hmmm, what was my third part?? I forgot already...Well, I guess I will just say all of this instead. I'm not sure how to post all of this on my page yet,but you can follow me on twitter @ravenamaru
I don't actually know how to use twitter yet either. So follow me and watch me as I learn how to work this damn thing. Another side note I am listening to  " Un Jeune Homme Chantait" De Edith Piaf.
Love her. My favorite song from her is "Non, Je Ne Regret" I sing it all the time, In my car, In the shower, In the line at the supermarché. All of the above +. I think I can sing like her, but I sound more like Carey Mulligan  in "Shame". Owch. I suggest everyone listen to Edith Piaf, and If you don't mind lots of odd sex scenes, the film Shame.

Bandeau.

I suppose I am going to start this thing. I've been meaning to for some time now and just haven't gotten around to it. A Warning: I am not a literary genius nor am I a fashion know-it-all. I am just A girl of 19 who is confused and finds comfort in writing what I'm thinking about as well as projects to keep my hands busy.

Some things I currently love on the internet are : Sass & Bide because of this one little neon bag they have made and I am MADLY in for it. ( In fact I foresee a DIY in the near future) .I quite like pottery- and likewise, jewelry made of clay. Cat eye sunglasses, Free People ,  Nice Coifs and hair, though I do not put much time into my own, and wet looking or leather pants.  While I am currently indifferent about floral pants, clear clutches ( perspex or something ) and orange blouses.

All of things brings me to finding some sort of purpose of this blog. I don't want to write about sex and the city. I don't want to write about gorgeous couture gowns that I could never fit into or afford. I want to write about whats happening up here in my head and especially things that are easy to make at home, with rational supply lists and time frames.

Now for the first DIY: a simple-fucking bandeau. I find them nice to wear under lace or something light in the summer or spring, or even on that fantasy vacation. But I wear mine also with strapless dresses because I still need a bra.

SImple enough? You can buy one for fifteen dollars at the above link, or make one out of old leggings, a t-shirt or stretch fabric you have lying around. And it is fucking simple to do it.Here's how:

You will need:
 a small bit of elastic.
some sort of fabric wide enough to cover your breasts twice, and long enough to go around you once. give an extra inch if the fabric doesn't stretch
scissors
and last, a sewing machine or even a needle and thread. with the machine it takes ten minutes, by hand, longer.

To start, (after taking neccesary measurements)
fold the fabric in half like so:

Sew it. Now, it doesnt matter how perfect it looks as long as there is a semi-straight line.
Turn it inside out.

now is time to take the small bit of elastic, you don't want it too thick, and place it in the middle of the fabric, and sew down the middle.

Sew it together at the back ( right sides facing together )

That's it. You have a finished bandeau. Now all you need is some warm weather, a lace top and some jean shorts, then you can call it a day.
